Architectural Shingles
Laminated asphalt shingles with a dimensional, multi-layer appearance.
What Makes Them Different
Architectural shingles (also called dimensional or laminate shingles) are built from two or more layers of asphalt fused together, giving them a thicker, textured, shadow-line look instead of the flat, uniform tabs of older 3-tab shingles. That extra layer isn't just cosmetic — it adds weight and rigidity that helps the shingle lie flatter and resist wind lift.
Most architectural shingles sold in Ohio today carry 30-year to Lifetime manufacturer warranties, a Class A fire rating, and wind ratings of 110–130 mph when installed with the correct nailing pattern and starter strip.
Why It Matters in Ohio
Ohio's freeze-thaw cycles and spring wind events are hard on roofing. The added mass of an architectural shingle resists granule loss and cracking better than a 3-tab shingle over a 20–30 year lifespan, which is why nearly every reroof we quote in Fairfield County now specs architectural over 3-tab — the price difference is usually 10–15% but the lifespan difference is often a decade.
