Storm Damage

Physical damage to your roof and home caused by severe weather events such as hail, high winds, or falling trees.

Types of Storm Damage

Hail damage (punctures and cracks), wind damage (lifted and torn shingles), falling trees or branches, water infiltration from torn flashing.

Storm damage is usually sudden and visible. The key is documenting it before water damage spreads inside.

What's Covered

Insurance covers sudden storm damage from hail, wind, and falling objects. However, gradual deterioration from sun exposure or improper installation is NOT covered.

The damage must be from the storm event itself, not from pre-existing problems that the storm exposed.

Covered: Hail damages shingles during a storm. You file a claim. Insurance pays. Not covered: Your roof is leaking from poor installation. A light rainstorm comes. You blame the rain. Insurance investigates and denies because the real problem is installation, not the storm.

Act Quickly

Document storm damage with photos within 24 hours. File your claim within 48 hours. The faster you act, the more evidence exists that it was storm damage, not pre-existing issues.
